Why Neetocal doesn't support Proton calendar integration

Many users have asked about integrating Proton Calendar with Neetocal. While we understand the importance of this feature, we currently don't offer Proton Calendar integration due to technical limitations that would prevent us from providing a complete and reliable service.

The problem with Proton Calendar integration

Proton Calendar has a significant limitation in their API - they don't provide the ability to create events programmatically. This means,

  • You can import existing events from Proton Calendar to check availability

  • However, when someone books a meeting with you, that new event cannot be automatically added back to your Proton Calendar

  • This creates a one-way sync that doesn't provide a complete calendar experience

If we offered Proton Calendar integration in its current state, you'd still need Google Calendar, Outlook, or another service to receive meeting invitations and manage new events. To ensure you can fully manage meeting invitations and new events, we're not offering Proton Calendar integration right now.

This isn't just a Neetocal limitation. Other scheduling platforms, including Cal.com, face the same challenge.

  1. Cal.com can import Proton Calendar events for availability checking

  2. But they also cannot create new events in Proton Calendar due to API limitations

We'll add Proton Calendar integration as soon as Proton Calendar provides full API support for creating events.
